The meter typically operates on the amperometric or colorimetric principle. Amperometric sensors measure the current generated by the electrochemical reduction of ClO₂ at a working electrode, offering high selectivity and fast response. Colorimetric methods use DPD or similar reagents to produce a color proportional to ClO₂ concentration, measured photometrically.
